SEMINAR AND WORKSHOP

Workshop on Machine Learning and Data Analytics

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a workshop on Machine Learning and Data Analytics on 7th March 2026 for 8th-semester students. The resource person for the event was Mr Karthik A. V, Corporate Trainer at UNext, who brought 12 years of industry expertise. The workshop aimed to bridge theoretical machine learning concepts with real-world applications.

Students were introduced to the fundamentals of data mining, including clustering, classification, regression, and association rule mining. Key pre-processing steps such as data cleaning, transformation, and feature engineering were also discussed. The session covered both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, supported by practical examples. Mr Karthik explained model evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, and recall, along with cross-validation methods.

Hands-on activities using Excel and Orange Data Mining enabled students to practise data preparation, visualisation, and model building. Participants worked with sample datasets to perform exploratory analysis and derive insights. They also developed a simple machine learning model to predict customer purchasing behaviour.

Students actively engaged in the interactive components of the workshop. Feedback indicated a high level of satisfaction, with attendees appreciating the relevance, delivery, and practical depth of the content.
